Lifted up for destruction

Genesis  13:10 And Lot lifted up his eyes, and beheld all the plain of Jordan, that it was well watered every where, before the LORD destroyed Sodom and Gomorrah, even as the garden of the LORD, like the land of Egypt, as thou comest unto Zoar.

Praise the Lord!!

Today's daily meditation is on Lot. I often wonder the life of Lot, who was so close to the patriarch Abraham and still was not blessed.

Many people even after being associated with righteous people don't seem to prosper. What has bible got to say for them?

Lot was the son of Abraham's brother Haran and was with him wherever he went. He knew the statutes of the Lord as Abraham taught his household well, he also knew that Lord is a living God and still he was  not completely believing the Lord ways and trusted his senses more than the guidance of the Lord.

In the given verse there are few points which we can see.

1. Lot lifted up his eyes to see that the land was good
What we see doesn't always seem to be the right way or the right path. Sometime we tend to believe what we see rather than trusting in the hand of the God.

2. Lot planted the tent near the Sodom
Here we find that he would have seeked Lord's direction but  would have disregarded the warning as he had purposed in his heart to go and stay. We can find that in the servant Eliezer where he prays before starting any journey. I am sure that Abraham would have taught him similarly. And since we can be sure that Lord will never harm his children he would have been forewarned about the destruction but did not need Lord's advice.

3. Final entry
When we face a situation of warring where we are perplexed whether to believe the eyes or the Lord. We should never make hasty decisions by believing what we see. Lot might have been warned daily and Lord would have given him a better place that Sodom, but he did pay any attention to Lord's command and turned up to be a drunkard and fathered his own daughter's children.

What do we learn from this?

We would have many who would try to portray or show us the life in a glamourous manner, which would appear to good for our eyes but the end would be destruction.

We must always lean on the Lord's guidance, pray every day for his counsel and his protection from such mirage which would appear as a blessing.

Lot saw the land like a Garden of Eden he was so obsessed with being rich that he forgot that the blessing which he thinks  is a blessing is actually a place of destruction the result was his wife was turned into a pillar of salt. His daughters committed incest with their father.

Saints when we face such situation always remember TRUST IN THE LORD WITH ALL YOUR HEART AND LEAN NOT ON YOUR OWN UNDERSTANDING

God bless
